It was a big day of finals day at the #ROXYpro Gold Coast today, and it did not disappoint.
2x World Champion Carissa Moore claimed victory over local hero Stephanie Gilmore in a nail biting final. Moore dominated the heat with back to back 9 point rides, entertaining the crowd with plenty of powerful trademark Carissa carves

With the women's quarter finals kicking off the days competition, fans were anticipating exciting results with the draw matching up the rookie, the comeback and the top seeds. All hungry for a place in the semis.
In the most anticipated heat of the morning, 6x World Champ Stephanie Gilmore squared off against Brazilian powerhouse Silvana Lima. Steph was unable to beat Silvana in the lead up the the quarters and the crowd watched on eagerly to see how the heat would infold. Lima took the lead and scored an impressive 8.00 point wave. Steph soon returned fire with a 7.17 and an 8.83, nailing the win and progressing through to the semis.
In heat 4, Carissa faced off against American, Lakey Peterson. Moore meant business with the first clean barrel ride of the competition earning a 9.50 and a place in the semis.
After the men had completed round 5 of the #QuikPro, the heavens opened and gave the Gold Coast a brief drenching - ready for the girls to hit the water for the semi finals.
Heat 1 saw 6x World Champ Steph Gilmore up against tour rookie Tatiana Weston-Webb. With waves improving, Steph sealed the win and progress through to the final.
Hawaiian, Carissa Moore managed to seal the deal against Tyler Wright in a close second semi final against Tyler Wright, coming away with a 16.86 to Tyler’s 16.06.
The energy on the beach was electric as Steph and Carissa took to the water hoping to secure the first tour win of the year. Steph’s strong opening wave had the crowd on their feet early but it was Carissa’s back to back 9 point rides that saw her break ahead and claim the win. After being carried up the beach, Carissa and her ever-present smile graciously claimed her prize. There’s no doubt that the 2015 Championship tour has kicked off in a big way!
